Holly Ann is a Washington based painter, potter, and
sculptor with an academic background in ceramics and sculpture. She has always been fascinated in tactile art pieces, works that appeal to the sense of
physical touch. She translates this love for surface relief through palette
knife impasto paintings and pottery that has heavy relief patterns to satisfy
your senses. Inspired by nature, color, and tangibility, she utilizes texture
to capture a playful sense of movement and lightheartedness.
Art has always served as my way of connecting with others, allowing me to communicate where my words can not. I always find myself fascinated by small details and what seems to be rather insignificant moments, elements that are often overlooked by others. Art serves as my own way of honoring and celebrating these moments, capturing the emotional imprint left behind. Usually working with watercolor, acrylic, and mixing mediums, my work often depicts landscapes, architecture and animals exaggerated by bright colors and texture. I find myself most inspired by personal experience and location based work as I often start my process in plein air. Having most of my formal training in the 3D realm, I now make contemporary impressionist pieces that blend my love for sculpture, painting and collage that invokes a sense of curiosity and playfulness.
